Using the arts and technology to engage learners, we work with schools, colleges, universities and community groups to promote the value of quiet for ourselves, our communities and the planet.

primary workshops

Small Silence primary workshops use the arts to explore elements of children's social and emotional learning. The workshops are delivered through an immersive story, where helping the characters to solve a problem engages the pupils in imaginative arts work. Pupils also have the opportunity to achieve an arts award.

secondary workshops

secondary workshops explore the importance of quiet to health and wellbeing, tying-in with the PSHE, science and arts curriculum. Delivered through an engaging, creative process by experienced teachers and artists, workshops can be tailored to the particular requirements of schools.

further education

Our pilot programme with Reading College gave students the opportunity to explore local quiet spots and compose electronic music for each integrating field recordings and the 'acoustic fingerprint' of spaces from recorded impulse responses.

higher education

Visits to Higher Education establishments explore issues around urban quiet spaces through listening, field recording, mapping and soundscape analysis. Engaging learners at both graduate and post-graduate level in primary research that complements teaching in both urban planning and arts departments.

community arts

Working with experienced teachers and community artists, Small Silence community workshops focus on the value of quiet for improved mental health and the cultivation of interior stillness through contemplative arts activities.
